An Open Letter to the Doctors Regarding Fibromyalgia

Dear Doctors,

It is long past the time to stop pretending that fibromyalgia constitutes an actual diagnosis. A fibromyalgia diagnosis is a cop out and a sham that not only does not help patients, but harms them further. The fact that doctors continue to steal their patients’ time and money under the guise of treatment, reveals nothing short of moral bankruptcy, not only of individual medical practitioners but of the entire medical establishment.

Doctors inform their fibromyalgia patients that “there is no known cause and no cure.” How convenient. If there is no known cause and no cure and no chance in hell that a cause or cure will be found because nobody is looking, then doctors are off the hook and really do not have to help their patients at all. Instead doctors prescribe powerful medications designed to cover the symptoms and experiment on their patients. When their treatments cause further harm, the fibromyalgia is blamed and not the “treatment” that is causing further harm. How can doctors successfully treat patients for which a cause of their ailments remains a mystery?

The symptoms of fibromyalgia most obviously indicate high toxicity in the body that anyone with the slightest bit of medical knowledge could easily surmise.
· Chronic pain, muscle spasms, or tightness
· Moderate or severe fatigue and decreased energy
· Insomnia or waking up feeling just as tired as when you went to sleep
· Stiffness upon waking or after staying in one position too long
· Difficulty remembering, concentrating, and performing simple mental tasks
· Abdominal pain, bloating, nausea and constipation and diarrhea
· Tension or migraine headaches
· Jaw and facial tenderness
· Sensitivity to one or more of the following: odors, noise, lights, medications, certain foods, and cold
· Numbness or tingling in the face, arms, hands, legs or feet
· Increase in urinary urgency or frequency
· Reduced tolerance to exercise and muscle pain after exercise
· A feeling of swelling (without actual swelling) in the hands and feet

Why then do these obvious symptoms of over toxicity in the body escape the brilliant minds in the medical establishment? Why then do doctors break their own oath to cause no harm by prescribing Lyrica (a drug that will contribute to the body’s toxicity level and does not work)? Lyrica has side effects worse than the symptoms of fibromyalgia like seizures, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, difficulty speaking, rapid weight gain or weight loss, skin lesions, uncontrolled eye movements and blurred vision. Other side effects of Lyrica are the same as symptoms of fibromyalgia like unusual tiredness or weakness, joint and muscle pain, memory problems, insomnia and diarrhea.

It is time for doctors to come clean and admit that diagnosing a patient with fibromyalgia cannot and will not lead to a good patient outcome. Diagnosing patients with fibromyalgia puts patients on a path of destruction and not on a path toward healing because it posits that a person’s normal reaction to over toxicity is a syndrome or an illness for which there is no known cause and no cure. Once a fibromyalgia diagnosis is in place, answers for patients become impossible because the answer remains fibromyalgia. In other words, the answer is that there is no answer and as a patient, one just has to live with it.

As a patient, one just has to live with being treated like a criminal for being in pain, enduring month after month and year after year of pain management clinics for which treatment goals are never met, the pain remains unmanaged and all hope of ever experiencing a day without pain dies. Albert Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. If that be the case then the doctors who diagnose and treat fibromyalgia are insane.

  2. Thank you, Kira. This is exactly where I am right now, combined with a new one that makes getting real help will be nearly impossible. Somatic Disorder. I think i am in a doctor-style Twilight Zone. 😔
